PROPOSAL OBJETIVES

The main objective of the project including hotel and business center is to revitalize this area has been abandoned as an island within the urban fabric that has little to do with the plot. As mentioned, the track layout and its current near halt station has created a rift between the two parts of the city. The proposal is based on interconnect isolated areas based on the following actions:

-       Excavation of the routes and commuter AVE.

-       Recovery and rehabilitation of the existing station of a high architectural value.

-       Performing a transport interchange station centered in connection with:

                                 §  Cercanías Train.

                                 §  AVE.

                                §  Bus station.

                                §  Subway.

§  Private parking for 900 cars

-       Generating an annex to the Tierno Galván Park to connect with this and save the gap with the street Ramirez de Prado using different platforms.

-       Creation an unique building to focus in Center bussines, hotel, the access to cercanías, AVE, and subway use the station like a conection with the old and new building.

Rehabilitation of Roquetas market

Passionate young "Studio M + A_Arquitectura" formed by María González Álvarez and Jose Ramón Santo Marhuenda, presented this project to a competition for the Rehabilitation of the Market of Roquetas de Mar under the name 2x1gastroÁGORA.

A NEW MARKET CONCEPT

As the largest capital markets, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao are no longer the central base for food and beverage marketing in order to become authentic gastronomic and leisurly spaces. What a better place than a market to enjoy the latest culinary trends?

The aim to look for a new market model; a place where people eat, buy and gossip, in which Spaniards do best: living and enjoying community life. A new gourmet market, pertaining to leisure in Roquetas de Mar, and the fusion of two markets into one, offering a full day of activities.

Inside the building, a small urban structure is assembled. Between the existing building and the new architectual structure, unique and splendid scenerios are unfolded for the users of Roquetas de Mar.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

The reformation of the market looks to preserve the existing architectural structures. Its main action/goal is to design a new formal and special arrangement that will break with the traditional idea of a “Mercado de Abastos”. It will facilitate the visualization of the products offered, adjusting the set-up to current needs so as to enhance the users circulation and eliminating architectural barriers.

This Project is looking for constructive and spacial systems that allow the reconfiguration of spaces according to the specific needs of both, the dealer and each type of trade. For example, the market stands are intended to be useful and easily desmantled leaving no trace, so if less metres were needed, more interior spaces could be made.

The New Market aims to:

- Build a community life, understanding the market as an agora for the town of Roquetas de Mar, a public space where social relations and closer ties with neighbors and your own town are fostered. A place where all kinds of gastronomic activities are combined.

- Build a city that has access to the market from any perimetral street. In the same way that one can access the interior of “los Bajos” from differents cities that diverge and reunite in the interior of the market´s plaza.

- Build a landscape with the forest which will help us organize the spaces near the market. The two codes: visual and of colors, are applied in the same way than in ¨los bajos¨, by using the same type of trees.

MATERIALITY: THE ADOPTED SOLUTIONS

Taking into account all the possible variations/changes that the market can suffer, there are some constructive systems that are being looked into in order to allow more freedom, flexibility and reconfiguration of the spaces, according to the specific spacial needs of every situation and of every merchant. The market is resolved with solutions of easy construction, looking for a balance between standardization and adaptability

Students Competition, Nature observatory

NATURE OBSERVATORY OF AMAZONIA, South America 2014

PRESENTATION:

The Amazon is a vast region located in the central northern part of South America comprised of the Amazon Basin rainforest.
The Amazon rainforest, considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world, is the largest rainforest on the planet. It is believed to cover 6 million km² distributed over eight different countries, of which the largest areas belong to Peru, Colombia and Brazil, followed by Bolivia, Ecuador, Guyana, Venezuela and Surinam. The Amazon is known as one of the regions with the greatest biodiversity in the world.
The high temperatures favour the development of thick and exuberant vegetation that is always green. The Amazon has been named the “Lungs of the Earth”, based on the fact that it maintains a climatic equilibrium on the planet by continuously recycling CO2 into O2.
The entire wet tropical flora of South America is found in the Amazon rainforest. There are innumerable species of plants that have yet to be classified, thousands of species of birds, countless amphibians and millions of insects. In fact, 20% of the species of birds and plants on the planet can be found in the Amazon rainforest.
The Amazon rainforest grows around the Amazon River and its drainage basin. The Amazon River has the largest water flow and is the longest in the world, stretching for more than 6,800 km. The majority of its length follows a serpentine path through the jungle, creating a network of channels and many islands. The average depth of the Amazon is 50 meters and its width varies between 1.5 and 3 km.
Its drainage basin is also the largest in the planet.
It originates at the base of the Nevado Mismi mountain peak in Peru, at an altitude of about 5,170 m, crossing Colombia, and ends on the Brazilian coast.
The Amazon river system has more than one thousand major tributaries, 25 of which are more than 1,000 km long. The river system is comprised of more than 100,000 km of rivers that make up the Amazon Basin, upon which the jungle depends for its existence. About 50% of the precipitation in this region is produced by this forest system.
The main economic activities in the basin are based on the massive exportation of rubber plant and wood, which lead to a great deal of deforestation in the region, one of the greatest threats to the Amazon.

Object:

The objective of this competition for students and young professionals of Architecture and Design, named the Nature Observatory of Amazonia (NOA), is to come up with ideas for the creation of a centre in which the Amazon ecosystem can be learned about and observed through intimate contact with nature.
The Nature Observatory of Amazonia (NOA) seeks to become an innovative reference for the dissemination of knowledge about the biological and cultural diversity of the natural environment of the Amazon, providing spaces for educational participation in environmental activities, as well as becoming an interesting stop on the tourism route along the Amazon River.
The project should establish a close dialogue with the landscape and natural surroundings of this unique region of the planet and be highly self-sufficient and sustainable.
The idea is to create a space which facilitates the relationship between its visitors and nature, a space which stimulates eco-tourists and invites the public to learn about the importance of taking care of the environment.
